We are living in a time of unprecedented change. The systems in place upon which we have for so long depended may not provide us with all the things we take for granted for ever. Things like food, clothing, shelter and medicine, not too long ago were things we all knew how to create and provide for ourselves. Working together as a community, a tribe, a village, all people used to be fully self sufficient, not relying or depending on any outside source other than other tribes and villages with whom trade, barter and skill sharing were a common practice.

We can not go back in time, yet neither can we realistically move forward into a healthy or sustainable future as a society if we do not learn from our past and ensure that the vital skills of self sufficiancy, community cooperation and living with the earth are revived, re-learned, nurtured and preserved so that they may be handed down to our young who are inheriting a planet greatly in need of competent, compassionate and confident caretakers. Confident and competent not only in their ability to take care of the earth, but also of themselves and eachother.

In the midst of skill sharing and learning is creativity and community, the glue that holds it all together.

Therefore we also make a place at Self Reliance Farm for the Creative and Performing Arts, from dance classes to art partys to open mike and movie nights! Our courses, workshops and events are open to all and always in a constant state of growth so please check our website and calendar of events regularly.

If you have a skill or craft that you would like to share, please get in touch with us! We would love to hear from you! :)
